Frank Sinatra’s appearance at the Hollywood Bowl in 1943 was an historic one indeed. The venue was traditionally reserved exclusively for highbrow music, but after weeks of public controversy, Bowl directors agreed to book Sinatra for one night. 10,000 fans packed the house as Sinatra crooned hits “Dancing in the Dark,” “Night and Day,” “You’ll Never Know” and “The Song Is You.” He finished with “All or Nothing at All” and was given a standing ovation. It was a moment for the memory books as “The Sultan of Swoon” conquered another of America’s famous arenas.
