U.S. Route 30 is an east-west highway across the northern part of the country. It begins in Atlantic City, New Jersey and ends at Astoria, Oregon. It’s the third longest road and includes much of the historic Lincoln Highway, which was the first road across America. Early proposed names for U.S. 30 included “The Coast-to-Coast Rock Highway” or “The Ocean-to-Ocean Highway.” The building of America’s major highways-US route 66, US 101, US 1, and US 30-contributed to the rapid economic growth of the 20th century. But for many, the open highway is more than a way to get somewhere. It’s an icon for freedom, and is the legendary backdrop for countless tales of discovery. Where will your next road trip take you?
