William Wrigley, Jr. personally selected the unique, triangular parcel of land on which the Wrigley Building rests to create an impressive headquarters for his successful chewing gum business. Charles Beersman’s design of a gleaming white building covered in glazed terra cotta completed Mr. Wrigley’s vision for his thriving new company. An enormous two-story clock tops the building with four faces, each nearly 20 feet in diameter. In the daytime, the unique architectural design creates an especially inviting interior by permitting an unusual amount of sunlight to enter the building. In the evening, the Wrigley Building comes alive with illumination from multiple light banks including 116 thousand-watt lamps mounted on the opposing side of the Chicago River. Located at the southern end of the glamorous Michigan Avenue shopping district, the Wrigley Building provides a landmark entry to Chicago’s “Magnificent Mile.” Don’t forget to stock up on chewing gum while you’re there.
